Sensory Overload

If superman was real, I think the reality would be very different from the comics. You would probably find him in a dark room, shaking with his hands over his ears. For you see the light would probably blind him, the noise be unbearable. And he wouldn’t want to touch anyone for fear of hurting them. I can definitely relate to that, if you are not autistic please remember these two things. Don’t dismiss sensory issues, they can be incredibly stressful and intense. For me I end up with a stress headache and often can cause me to physically shake. To make things worse, that can lead to a meltdown... Meltdowns cause a lot of fear, very often guilt too. If an autistic person doesn’t want to be touched, it’s a protective instinct. However it’s often about protecting everyone, not just them. If they back away, let them, but stay nearby (at a distance) so they know you are there. All the best Ross www.mylifeautistic.com Words – Ross A Fraser Graphic Design App – Canva #NewLifeAutistic
