In season 10 of ABC’s The Walking Dead, a new and pretty unforgettable character is introduced. As soon as you see Princess you know she is different. Her personality shines through from the moment she is introduced. She makes her debut in episode 14, however it’s episode 20 that I want to focus on.
She had been alone a long time and felt the weight of that. Desperate for people in her life, but fearful of them leaving her. She seems to dissociate into her thoughts. Hoping she can be the hero of the story. Help the people she just met, and get to have them as friends.
Her fears, and the experience she’s just been through keep repeating in her mind. She mentally disconnects and attacks a guard. I think they are trying to show a meltdown that’s been triggered by fear and panic. The interesting thing is when she realises, the first that she does is apologise and backs away. Her consciousness taking back control from her instincts, maybe. There is a lot to love about princess and I found her to be really relatable in lot of ways.
I think I would have shown dissociation/meltdowns in a different way. Just because it could be misread, but Princess as a character, she is awesome. Especially when she becomes an established member of the group. She is not only a great character but preformed so beautifully by Paola Lázaro. She states that she is neurodivergent in the show, and Paola plays the part so incredibly well, in my opinion.
All our best and love

I missed season 10 and 11 of The Walking Dead, so I’ve been catching up with it. I am really glad I did because I met Princess, a character that (at times), I can feel deeply connected to.
