How to help

A meltdown can be very frightening for both parties involved. The autistic individual is overwhelmed and needs support. This can be difficult if you do not understand what a meltdown looks like or why it happened. The goal is to reduce stress and anxiety for both parties, while still being able to witness the meltdown in order to help resolve it. A meltdown can frightening because you could unintentionally hurt someone. Don't add negativity to an already fragile mind. Gentle reassuring words is the best way to help.
