Christmas Tree

One of the things that I love about this time of year is the Christmas Tree. I always loved Christmas lights, soft but striking lighting that summed up Christmas time. However over the years our tree has become more important to me. Not because of the tree itself, but the decorations that adorn the branches.

Some of these decorations go back to my childhood. I’m sure there are a few of my grandparents decorations on there too. Our Christmas decorations are a collective mix, an eclectic gathering representing people and time. For example there is an ornament from our first Christmas as a married couple. Several that represents my wife and daughter. Plus ones that represent our family in a wider sense. Both on my side of the family, and my wife’s side.

Another reason the tree has become such a strong Christmas symbol for me, is a family tradition. For several years we have been doing a gift at the start of the season. From your tree to ours, it was something that my mum started.

Each year, we each buy a Christmas ornament for our own trees. However we buy two of that ornament. One we keep and we post the other one out. So that my mum and dad’s tree in Inverness and ours in Aberdeenshire have some of the same ornaments. I really loved this idea, and it’s something we have done for several years now. My daughter loves to choose our ornament, especially knowing that she gets to send it to Granny and Grandad for their tree too.

All our best and love

The Christmas tree is always at the heart of our Christmas decorations, because a lot of the decorations we have represents our family.
