Taychreggan is situated to allow you to make the very most of this unique area with an abundance of lochs and mountains on their doorstep.
Nestled within its very own bay looking down Loch Awe. It is also within an easy drive of Glencoe and Glen Etive via the spectacular Glen Orchy. Close to Oban, the ferry gateway to Western Isles of Mull and Iona. They are the ideal place in which to enjoy the very best of this beautiful corner of the West Highlands.
Taychreggan began life as a humble 17th century cattle drovers inn, built on a small peninsula that juts out into the loch. It was from here, at Loch Awe’s narrowest crossing point, the cattle would swim across. From bustling with cattle the hotel now boasts a romantic country house hotel; full of features of a bygone day with the same idyllic setting.
Samuel Johnson and James Boswell stayed here in their historic journey to the Hebrides. The journey was grueling and the philospher grumbled about the lodging along the way. But something about Taychreggan put him at peace and he finally relaxed enough to take his first taste of Scottish whisky.
