Caregivers
There are some days the storm is so intense that dark clouds hover over every thought; where no joy or hope can be found, the horizon too far away. But you are there... you provide the shelter, and ride out the storm with us. You are defiant in your protection so one day we can face less stormy seas. You stand by us, support us and fight for us. But most importantly you are there. To anyone that deeply loves an autistic person: you haven’t failed because you had to fight for the right support but didn’t get it. You are our guides and champions, because when we feel lost, you ensure we find our way back. You help translate the world when it doesn’t make sense. You may not realise it but you are our anchor when we become adrift. To me that makes you just as important to this community as we are. So if you’re having a tough day, please know I do really respect what you do. Because without you, our journey in life could quite easily feel like a mountain too high to climb. So to everyone in the non autistic community that loves and cares for us, genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you and please don’t give up hope. I truly believe together we can change the world for the better. That one day the storms will become more distant and we can be truly accepted. Until then I promise you I’m in your corner as much as you are in ours. This is a community project to me, my voice but for the community as a whole.
